Luke Tresoglavic, 22, was snorkelling when he was bitten 300 metres from the beach north of Sydney. He swam ashore with the shark's razor-sharp teeth embedded just below his knee.
Luke said: "A couple of people tried to help me, but I could not remove it. So I got in my car and drove to the clubhouse."
Lifeguard Michael Jones flushed the 2ft wobbegong shark's gills with fresh water, forcing it to loosen its grip on Luke's leg, which had 70 needle-like punctures.
