*snerk* Yeah, like this is actually going to happen....

GET SET FOR DOCTOR U.S.

Doctor Who is being remade for US TV - with an American Time Lord.

The BBC are keen to squeeze yet more cash from the format following the show's success on BBC America. But the British background will be lost. US TV executives are poring over scripts for a series being planned by the team behind hit paranormal drama Supernatural.

A source told the Sunday Mirror: "The countdown is on for an American Time Lord to take over the Tardis. Doctor Who is as British as tea and toast or fish and chips. So there will be a few ruffled feathers at the thought of such a British institution being given a Hollywood makeover.

"This is going to be an all-American Doctor. Think Uncle Sam with a Sonic Screwdriver."

No. Just no. Ain't gonna happen, despite being reported in the newspapers. Now a US version of Torchwood on the other hand....

Did they learn nothing from the Americanised flop with Paul McGann? Abysmal is too good a word.

Speculation, won't happen. *fingers crossed*

Serenity - River with sword

Looking back at that Paul McGann thing now, I'm curious how much of it they kept. Different TARDIS interior, the extra long running time, the kissing between the Doctor and his companion. Looking at it as a pilot for its time, it wasn't bad.

This, on the other hand, has disaster written all over it - and through it like a stick of rock!

The ONLY way this will have a chance is if they have original scripts. If they just remake the UK series episodes, I won't bother to even try to watch it.

I expect it to flop dismally....eyes the Eighth Doctor's movie....

Unfortunately, given FOX and RTD seem to be working very close together (just avoided the climbing into bed together worrying mental image), one would suspect not. :(

Torchwood American sounds fun! But Dr Who USA makes my eyes bleed. Kinda like Being Human US.

Burn the World

They've been talking Torchwood US for awhile now. And you just know if that takes off, they'd try for Time Lord USA.

Doctor Who - Cyberman - Delete!

American Doctor Who'll happen before American Torchwood does.

We're too prudish for that show to be on anywhere except for a cable pay channel late at night.

It does have a few possibilities... Are they going for a complete reboot of the series, with the grumpy old anti-hero with a granddaughter and the teachers, or are they going to split off another Eleventh Doctor?

DW - Ten Women

Well, Tennant has been trying to crack the US for a little bit now....

I think it would all depend just how much they'd listen to RTD who's over in America now, supposely working on Torchwood.

I'll watch a US version of Torchwood as long as it's a US branch OF Torchwood. That could be interesting (heh, set it in Cleveland) and could compliment the original/real Torchwood.

A US Doctor Who? Um, no. A US Time Lord... maybe. If they really want a US Time Lord, do it and have the final episode of the series be the US Time Lord being destroyed by the Daleks or destroyed/trapped by The Doctor. That... actually could, if somehow miraculously done right, be pretty cool. But the odds of them actually doing it right are... wait, let me figure up the exact odds... I just need to divide by zero...

A US Torchwood would be interesting (especially if someone like HBO got hold of it) and I would indeed look forward to it. Well, maybe not the Nekkid Jack every single episode, though that would appeal to certain viewers.

US DW? *shudders*

doctorsong

First thought: Someone obviously let their April 1st joke article out a bit too early.

Second thought: I'd watch it just for the train-wreck value.

Drama draught

First reply : Struck me as someone desperate to fill up the newspaper. Short of news at the very least...

And second: Yeah, the more I think about it, me too!

batman pout [literati]

A little piece of my soul just curled up and died.

Why do they keep doing this? Why? They know it doesn't work! The Office is the exception not the rule. They have destroyed so many good shows. Why won't they stoooooooooooop? *weeps* /drama queen

FOX just called. Apparently, your drama queen impression has convinced them to offer you a role in it.

fanboy

Now if they wanted to find a DIFFERENT Time Lord, and make a US series, that might work. I'm an American, I don't want Hollywood to get their mitts on the Doctor. If I liked American TV, I'd be watching it. I PITY THE FOOL WHO MESSES WITH OUR DOCTOR!!!

(And yes I'm shouting and doing my Mr.T impression, for all of you kids who were born after 1980, google it)

Could they have thought of a less appealing sales pitch than "Uncle Sam with a Sonic Screwdriver"? And they're talking about handing it over to Kripke? If you thought RTD was bad with the emotional torture and woobification of his characters, all I can think of is that in the Kripke version, the Doctor and the Master would be brothers (although this wouldn't stop the mad sexin' in the fanfic of course, because the casting would be insanely attractive)

Scary thing is that RTD is a Supernatural fan - know he's made a comment somewhere about how pretty the boys are, so yeah, can see him pushing for it.

Torchwood: Cpt Jack & Ianto

Fox has commissioned the Torchwood pilot from RTD. And I have complete faith because Fox has such a sterling reputation with Sci-Fi...oh wait.

Wow, you really don't like Matt Smith, do you? Seriously, did he run over your dog or something? I may not like him, but I'm waiting till the actual show to judge him. Learned that lesson with Catherine Tate. All the advance reviews seem to agree he fully becomes the Doctor by the end of it.

Just two weeks left to wait!

Grandma infinitemonkeys

I don't suppose they can be persuaded to keep any American version entirely to themselves?

What they do in the privacy of their own country is up to them I guess... as long as they don't let it out onto the street to frighten the horses.
