December already? Must be rant time!

December 1st, 2008 (11:28 am)

Yes, it's that time of year again where everything kicks into high gear for us at the Post Office once again. Officially, anyhow. Last week showed distinct signs of the Christmas card deluge starting, and Sat overtime confirmed it. Christmas cards in general, I don't mind - it's the tiny, small, short bastards that are the bane of my existance.

The trouble with running a sorting machine is that everything travels through the belt system at speed. There are always natural points where the belts switch, helping the letters etc to be sorted into the right groups and canceled appropriately. Trouble is these belts are designed for normal sized envelopes (POP sized - Post Office Prefered) or bigger C5 sized letters. Any A4 sized letters (aka flats) gets kicked out of the machine quite early on. The small cards though tend to get flung out of the belt system between the belt switches and jam into various parts of the machinery. Needing one of the poor operators (ie me) to have to keep on pulling the stuff out of these locations. Again and again.

Grr. Arg.

Anyhow, that said, it's time for my Christmas Card appeal. If you'd like a christmas card from me this year, please comment below with your address. Comments will be screened of course, but please add your address if if you think I've already got it (the house is in such a December type mess already that I'm fairly sure I don't know where my address book is. *shame-face*)

*hugs and kisses* Wish me luck! Christmas pressure starts here!

Which is why I'm buying big Christmas cards this year. I contemplated the tiny ones and then thought of you and thought "better not".

Ouch, that would be like if I had to unjam copiers/printers all day. Good luck and hopefully you'll get to work with less glitchy machinery in the future :)

*sad snerk* Those machines were 13 years old when I first got on them - 6 or 7 years ago.

What really makes me laugh is that the new super mail centre now has six of them up and running, all taken from other mail centres. And there's no chance in hell that anyone will have let their best running ones leave. :D Not to mention these machines do not travel well.....
