Song for whoever

August 15th, 2007 (05:27 pm)

As influenced by a conversation at work, what would be the worst possible songs to play at a funeral? So far, we've thought of

Going Underground (The Jam)
Relight My Fire (Take That)
Sympathy For The Devil (Rolling Stones)
Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (Wham)
Poison (Alice Cooper)
and
Suicide is Painless (Theme from MASH)

Any others? *grin*

I quite liked the story about the funeral where the song played was "If You Don't Know Me By Now" - although I'm not sure the humour is worth a Simply Red song...

I guess it depend on what the dead died of - to put it like that.

Gun accident: Janie's got a gun by Aerosmith
Fire:: The Roof is on fire by Bloodhound Gang
Car accidents: On the road again - Willie Nelson
Overdose: Because I got High - Afroman

What did I miss

That reminded me of something which I have tracked down -
Peter Sellers died on July 24, 1980, but the comic could not go out without playing one last joke. He had the song In The Mood played at his funeral, leaving his fellow Goons to fight back laughter - Sellers hated the song.

How about 'Smoke Gets in your Eyes'?

'Down, down, deeper and down?'

Or isn't there something by someone like Harry Belafonte or so which goes 'I'm sad to say I'm on my way, won't be back for many a day'?

music

"Or isn't there something by someone like Harry Belafonte or so which goes 'I'm sad to say I'm on my way, won't be back for many a day'?"

I know that song (but not its title)... something about having "left a little girl in Kingston town".

According to one of those quick questionnaires in a music magazine a couple of years ago (I think it was "Uncut"), Paul Weller wants "Going Underground" played at his funeral...

The Comedian guy who was on Eastenders (Frank) played a song that he had a hit with many years ago.

It was about ducks or some such.

Lost Highway

Well, for the fun loser everyone knows you just have to go with Hank Williams' "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive."

The song "Hell" by the Squirrel Nut Zippers jumps immediately to mind

No one's mentioned "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen? What's wrong with everyone?

I'd add "Creep" by STP for the repeated line "I'm half the man I used to be". :D
