Hard Drive Recovery update

February 22nd, 2007 (11:34 am)

Looks like when it went, I lost My Music, My Documents, any tv episodes I'd 'acquired' and everything in My Pictures - all icons, photos, the lot.

My Music is now pretty much restored, due to my friend's habit of grabbing any new songs I've got onto his laptop for his collection. Took us loads of time last night, but we managed to copy his music library back over to my new drive, and now I simply have to go through and delete anything too bad.

My Pictures on the other hand, still exists in my iPod somehow. I haven't dared reconnect it to the computer yet, in case it updates and wipes it. Does anyone know if there's a way to download the pictures from your iPod back to your computer? So far, I'm baffled.

If I recall correctly, if you connect the iPod without iTunes running, Windows should recognize the iPod as a hard drive and allow you to simply copy the files over.

Also, if you hook the iPod up to the computer the first time, it should ask you if you want to copy everything from the iPod onto your machine, though I had issues with that working the last time I tried it (but that was my iPod being old and crappy).

Thanks! Now I just have to work out how to turn the automatic iTunes launch feature off...

Oh, someone else had this problem recently! The biggest thing to remember is to MAKE SURE that the thing isn't set to sync automatically, or it'll wipe your ipod instead of downloading from it.

Aha! That makes sense, and is one reason why I haven't dared reconnect my iPod yet. Thanks!

Glad other people had some tips - I got nothing.
