Girl Genius news

Firtsly, Girl Genius is an absolutely hysterical ongoing "gaslamp fantasy" story by Phil and Kaja Foglio. It follows the career of Agatha Heterodyne — a hapless student at Translyvania Polygnostic University who discovers that she has more going for her than she thought.

The genre is also similiar to "steampunk" but mixed heavily with Jules Verne and H. Rider Haggard. Expect big, clanking Victorian-style tech, old-fashioned clothes, Frankenstein monsters and airships. Lots and lots of airships. Is it magic? Is it science? No, it's Mad Science!

I’ve been waiting for a while to see a new issue of this, so I finally went looking to see what was going on. Girl Genius is now an online comic only. Located at, you now have two ways of reading it.

Girl Genius 101 - You can start at the very beginning with issue 1 of the series and read all the pages up to date as they’re published on the web every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Or, of course, get the three trades already published which would take you up to issue 10 and then find issues 11-13.

Girl Genius Advanced – Also published Monday, Wednesday and Friday, these pages go from the end of issue 13 and continue on from that point. All new Phil Foglio art! Woot!

I believe the current plan, as devised by philfoglio and kajafoglio, is to publish new parts on the internet, with a graphic novel being published every year or so reprinting all those parts. I’m going to be fascinated to see just how well this publishing scheme goes – I know strips like User Friendly and MegaTokyo sell well as strips to graphic novels, but this is the first I’ve heard of it going the other way round.

White Knights Award Nomination

Sleeper has been nominated in the 'Guess Who Just Got Mean?' Award - Dark category. *squees happily* But just looking at all the other nominees in the awards is pretty scary - there's some damn good stuff in there.

And riding the synchronity wave indeed - it was only today at work that I was having thoughts about a possible sequel to Sleeper. Spooky.
