Fickle muses

April 24th, 2005 (10:18 pm)

Well, actually my muses seem to work on an interesting cycle. When they're running hot, the fic writing and plot bunnies come thick as thieves and flow onto the page as quickly as possible. Other times (like now) the writing almost hurts as the words won't come out easily, and the plot ideas almost get stuck in the idea doorway, all trying to get out together. And if that severely mangled metaphore doesn't convince you, nothing will...

Still, at least I got my Death By ficathon entry written a week before it's due. I just need to get it beta-ed and looked over now. I'll probably work on a few more drabbles later, in an attempt to get myself up and running once more.

That, and get another lyrics quiz ready for tomorrow. :) And as I haven't memed you nice people for a few days, here's one I prepared earlier (thanks to foenix):

Your LJ Perfect Date

Your Perfect Date empressvesica
You have dinner at Taco Hell

I blame the low percentage on the stupid ocean.

A little worrying, yes.

I'm not quite in the same boat. I know what I need to do, but I can't decide where to start. There's a poll at my LJ, if you're interested in poking me.

Er...

Um...

You know what I mean, right?

I'll probably work on a few more drabbles later, in an attempt to get myself up and running once more.

I've tried that... completely failed me. I had an idea that kept bouncing around my head that I've been ignoring as I've been promising myself to at least attempt to finish one of the stories I'm working on; whereas my muse wants to ignore some of the two stories I'm mainly working on (there's a third but I've come to accept that I'll never finish that), and do something that's shiny and new. (Evil evil muse... I know there's more interesting bits coming up in a few chapters time but that doesn't mean you ought to skip the next couple of sections). So after several failed attempts at starting the next chapter of each, I decided to come up with something new... (just to get the moment up, you understand... see if I can con my muse, that sort of thing). I used up my whole writing time that weekend on this new thing (which luckily did seem to go down well with most readers), and never got a chance to continue my other stuff.

So just thought I'd warn you - if the plan to enthuse the muse doesn't work out quite the way you were expecting it to... it's not your fault... these muses..? Evil... no other word for it.

Mike C

PS: If you do manage to get yours to work please could you give me some tips... mine refuses to behave.

Faith - Hmmm [Eliza-D.com]

Either that or your off-putting response to a perfectly reasonable request.

Insanity [by momentsintime]

Obviously I'm saying this while attempting to set a new world record for disrobing.

Nazgulls [trafficcone]

Slight problem with the lack of signposts on the ocean to tell me which way to go.

They keep sinking.

aw... just grab a compass and fly in a southwesterly direction. You'll hit something eventually.

Surrounded by Idiots [erin_see_icons]

Because you didn't really come over here and start in on the flightring comments. *head desk*

You realize that this joke has actually become canon of the Invisiverse now. :) I really need to work on that music video post...
