Quick dash into town to pick up a birthday card, and the new Garbage album. While that's being copied onto my computer before being added to my MP3 player for work, that lets me finally get round to browsing LJ. So, naturally, I go for the meme (gacked from foenix):

I've been a bridesmaid before.

Well, sort of. I was in a tux and all that, but I was on the bride's side of the wedding party. See, my friend M was marrying her longtime boyfriend/fiance E, and I was her friend. And A, who is a girl, was E's friend. So M & E decided to just have us be on the sides of our friends, rather than vice-versa.

My mom thought this was brilliant, and told all her friends I was a bridesdude.

Bridesdude. I like it. It has a nice ring.

I always thought the gender divide was rather stupid. Then again, that could be because my closest friends aren't all female.

*shrugs* Interesting idea. I shall have to keep it in mind if I ever give up on my Masterplan designed to piss my parents off - eloping with a really huge party after the honeymoon. Poor parents.

I've just determined that I will have to marry a girl whose closest friends are all guys, that will be the only way to even out the gender divide.

That could work too. Though I know very few girls who closest friends are ALL male. *shrugs*

Nice icon by the way. You realize we are torturing poor Booster with all this open drooling about Sin City when he won't get see it for months yet.

(Which made me check your user info to make sure I wasn't torturing you as well and what do I see? Fellow Hurricane Survivor! Greetings. And maybe you know the answer to my burning question - "Why the Hell do we live in this state? Really? I mean we always had the humidity and summer heat and mosquitoes the size of ponies...but now the promise of a decade of active storm seasons? WTF?")

Well, as for me, I was born here. That's pretty much why. =) Also, we have no state income tax, which makes it a bit more bearable. Or is that bareable? I have no idea, and don't feel up to looking it up. Anyway... I also live near the beach, unlike you, you crazy Disney land-locked person you. Oh! Have you been to that holy land theme park place? I drove by it a while ago, that was insanity. I can't even conceive of what that place would be like on the inside.

I didn't realize that Sin City didn't make it across the ocean for months. Strange. It has English actors in it -- well, at least one.

Poor Clive. I think part of his appeal in that film is that he couldn't quite manage to shake his accent.

I am NOT that close to Disney. I am actually closer to Daytona than Disney, though that is always really hard to explain to non-Floridians who don't understand how spread out our cities tend to be.

As for That Holy Roller theme park - yeah, it's scary. I've been. *hangs head in shame* I took my grandfather, who is a retired minister. He really liked it. The Scriptorium is pretty cool but that could just be because I am obsessed with books. It has some early copies of the Bible in a number of languages and gives a nice overview of the history of the text. Lots of info on the people and movements that lead to it being printed in native languages and some really pretty illuminated copies from the Middle Ages. But yeah - overall - SCARY scary place. It's not real high on my list of places to return to.

I think I am FLA just because I have, up until this point, been too lazy to leave. I wasn't born here (couldn't throw of the demographic of the five of you born in this state) but I have lived here - both in O-town and South Florida - since I was five. I am kinda used to it. And despite the deadly weather patterns and high incidence of lightning - there is no place quite like Florida when it comes to our skies. I miss FL skies when I travel. So huge and blue (most days).

Ah. You're east. Gotcha. I live in the only neighborhood in Jacksonville that you can walk around in and get to restaurants and stuff. It has its charms.

I would go to the Holy Rollers place once, just to check it out and see what it was like. I think it would be very interesting, to see exactly what type of theme park they would have and the types of people who were there. The entire concept of the place just seems so... contradictory to me. I don't know how to word that better, sorry.

My girlfriend is in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, right in the middle of Hurricane Alley. This will be her first hurricane season down there; I am somewhat of a worrying type to begin with. I already have the Carribean tropical weather report website bookmarked.

*laughs* Well according to the credits, Mr. Owen had his own vocal coach. I REALLY think he was supposed to not have an accent. *shrugs* I thought it was cute how the accent would sneak in. Then again, it has been well established that I have a huge weakness for British accents.

The Holy Roller park always reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons where Ned had GodWorld or whatever it was and people would come and have visions and then they discovered the gas leak? I am pretty flexible in my faith but that place sort of creeps me out. It just seems odd to have a tourist attraction for Christianity. I mean, if we were Israel I could understand it, as they at least have historical sites - but MouseWorld, Florida? It's odd. Almost as odd as Splendid China was.

As for the hurricanes, I thought most of them hit the US last season. Will keep my fingers crossed for your girl. How long is she signed up for and what project is she working with? Just curious as I have a close gal pal who just returned last summer from two years in Ghana teaching math at a small local school. She really enjoyed the experience though I think she ended it feeling like there was so much more she could have done. I was just jealous that someone was actually managing to save the world, even in a small way. Hopefully there will be a little more world saving in my future.

Also, it occurs to me that we are spamming Booster's LJ and he's going to come home from work to find a million comments of us talking to each other. That could be bad. Perhaps I should wander over to your lj. :)
