Computer update.

August 30th, 2009 (12:55 pm)

Whereas at one point last week I had access to all my data files (music, pictures, fic) but not the ability to access them, I currently now have a machine with all programs now safely installed and working, but no actual ability to get at them once again. *head-desk* Still, they're all safe for sure, just not plugged back into the machine yet.

The really annoying thing right now is the loss of all my bookmarks and previous emails. There's still a chance of getting them back, but the plan currently involves sticking the old hard drive in the freezer. No, seriously.

A classic trick, but not recommended long term. Get the data!

Good luck with the plan!

If I hadn't just spent part of today reading a very random website called '64 Key Elements to Geekdom' (or similar) in preparation for writing a McGee POV ficlet, I'd be blinking at the freezer comment. Who said writing doesn't make you smarter??

Sending sympathy re: bookmarks/emails and good luck with the freezer plan!

No, no - reading makes you smarter. *grin*

And thanks!

50/50 split. If I hadn't had urge to explore my inner McGeek (through fic), Google would never have coughed up the 64 Elements site, or any of the other random things I come across during pre-writing research...

Though I guess it depends what you're reading. Sometimes reading makes you dumber (especially in the Pit...)

sticking the old hard drive in the freezer

What does that do?

Hermione - Know everything

Cools down the old drive heads so the metal actually contracts, and doesn't stick on access for a while. Should hopefully give us enough time to grab what we need from it.
