Crossovers now supported at FanFiction.net ?

April 28th, 2009 (03:44 pm)

Anyone know what's happening over at FF.net? They seem to have a whole major section on the front page now all about crossovers. It looks like you can now pitch fics under more than one category ie Buffy and Batman crossovers could be located by searching through both Buffy crossovers and Batman crossovers.

Is this only for new fics now? Can you go back and re-edit your old crossover fics to go in the new category? Anyone know?

You can (and I have) re-edited my old crossover fics to go into the new categories. They're fairly comprehensive, actually. It's quite nice.

Snag is that once you've done this your stories don't show up in single category searches - for example, a Batman-Dexter story will show up in the Batman and Dexter crossover categories, but doesn't show up if you are looking for a straight Batman or Dexter story.

So far changing my stories to this system has got me a handful of new reviews for older stories, and the two new ones I've posted since it began have had roughly the usual number of reviews.

They did start adding links in the single categories up at the top, for "[Fandomname] Crossovers (#)", which does help drag in readers who mostly surf those single categories. And they stopped making you go into crossover subcategories to see stories as well; there's a link in the crossover sections for "Show All [Fandomname] Crossovers" now.

I've seen a few dozen reviews on older stories since I made the changeover; I'm rather pleased, overall. The smaller stories in rarer cross categories are easier for folks to find now.

Dawn - shiny

I suspect tonight will involve quite a lot of changing and updating on my FF account. Probably more than a few additions as well.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, you can edit your existing fics. I just made my VM/BtVS crossovers into crossover stories on there.

I think so. Just like when they add the character filters in. You can go into the story information and change it.

Which reminds me...I have a House/Greys fic that I need to put int the crossover pile.
