Sentimental yet sardonic [userpic]

Battlestar Marmite

March 25th, 2009 (01:22 pm)

Finally managed to catch up with the BSG finale last night (aka the UK transmission). I can certainly see why some people loved it, some people hated it and some people are still confused. As a friend of mine remarked "Once you bring religion in, you lower my sense of belief." He then proceeded to explain that yes, he did know it was a sci-fi show, but I digress.

Overall, for a show that was always more about the characters than the plot, it got the finale it deserved.

Two final notes: what the f--- was all that stuff about a thirteenth cylon named Daniel all about then if it didn't pay off? And let's face it - there really wasn't a plan. Cylon or otherwise.

No idea what the Daniel thing is about - to repeat my post of a few days ago, my guess is that Baltar and Six (the hallucinatory versions) are Crowley and Aziraphale, and Kara is the Holy Ghost, everyone else is more or less irrelevant.

I'm VERY annoyed about the whole "let's wipe out all of the pain and suffering by subjecting our descendants to thousands of years of pain, suffering, plague, starvation and backbreaking labour" Luddite nonsense. God (assuming that hallucinatory Baltar and Six are right when they say that God exists) ought to know better.

starbuck

For my part, I could not stop laughing that Starbuck, of all people, turned out to be an "angel".

I believe the Daniel thing was a red herring put in by the Rons to correct the Cylon numbering mistake that had been plaguing most of the whole series. Just a way of fixing a wee inconsistency that could have potentially come out as a plot disaster if handled wrong.

That's my take as well. Basically we had seen models 1-6 and 8. So we were left to assume the final five where 7, 9-12.

Then the whole final five thing of them being around first and creating the others put the numbers off. So a new model was introduced, and to show how evil the ones where they were killed off.

I thought it was a nice piece of retcon.

i agree with whoever said that Daniel and the #7 model cylon was a retcon. I think I read that somewhere.

Also, I believe that Ron Moore did say that Daniel was just a throwaway line, and that he didn't think it would gather all this momentum of Kara as either Daniel or the spawn of Daniel or somesuch.

Moore pretty much said Daniel was simply a creation to explain that they counted wrong. =P

Oh, if only BSG had been planned out ahead of time, instead of things being made up along the way.
