Remember _allecto_ and her feminist rant about Firefly? The one who claimed Joss must rape his wife, and deleted all comments that disagreed with her?

She's back at a new blog, now analysing Firefly's Our Mrs Reynolds.

Expect plenty of WTF she talking about moments.

Classics such as this :
"Now, it is pretty obvious by this point that Saffron has been traded to Mal in exchange for his killing the bad guys. She is a wife in the sense of being a sexual and domestic slave. When Zoe is told that Saffron has been traded to Mal as a wife/slave she begins to laugh. She then calls the rest of the crew and invites them to join her in laughing at Mal’s newly acquired possession. Now, I don’t know about you, but I have never met a Black woman who laughs about slavery. I can’t believe that any woman, Black or white would laugh at an incidence of men trading women. Where the hell does Joss Whedon do his research on women????? What women does Joss know that he can portray them like this???? "

Y'know, I kinda thought everyone was laughing at Mal.... silly me.

Y'know, I can actually see where she's coming from there but...yeah, what you said.

It's always...interesting to see how other people with different views come away with a different perspective.

Oh God. There aren't enough desks in the world for my head to bang against to get the words out of my memory.

Is she utterly incapable of recognising humor? Or not pigeonholing people because of their race and sex and insisting that they behave a certain way? Are the dynamics of a loving relationship, the in-jokes, the snark, a closed book?

Doesn't she see that Saffron sure as hell is not a victim in this, but Mal, and Inara are and that Jayne is being Jayne and if he'd reacted any other way it would be wildly out of character?

Does she not get that Joss was not writing about people who are perfectly PC according to early 21st century standards because hello, not from freaking Earth and it's 500 years in the freaking future? Plus perfect people are kind of boring to watch.

Gah.

Sorry. I got rant all over your LJ.

Uhm...right.

I guess I missed the part where they all couldn't wait for Mal to have fun with his new possession. Here I thought they just thought it was great that he was so screwed. I probably imagined all the "and if you take advantage-which you won't-you shall suffer. Greatly."

(Except for Jayne. But Jayne doesn't really count because...he's Jayne. And the attitude was shown to be veryvery Wrong.)
