That's very, very true.

I have a question, though...

If only you, me, and dead people can understand hex, how many people is that?

geek inside

*raises hand*

I was once terribly, terribly bored on a 7-day road trip at age ten, and spent many, many hours helping my nine year old brother fill a spiral notebook with the numbers 1 to 1000 in every base from 2 to 16. Including base 10, just to be complete. And Roman numerals besides. =)

Wow. You WERE bored.

All right... so, if Booster, you, your brother, dead people and me all understand hex, how many people understand hex?

All right, Stibbons... I'll reinstall the universe and reboot.

Heh!

Here's a random number fact for you... If you've read "Hitch-hiker's Guide" then you know that the answer to "Life, the Universe and Everything" is 42. You may recall from a later book that the question to the answer was "What is 6 times 9?".

But... did you ever notice that 6x9=42 IN BASE 13!! Thereby proving that the universe is basically unlucky!

I asked Douglas Adams if he'd meant this to be like that but he said it was sheer coincidence (and hadn't noticed). :-)

You met Douglas Adams? Suddenly I feel so jealous....

He came to Perth back in the early 80s when I was at Uni. I went to a lecture that he gave (very entertaining) and stayed to chat afterwards. AND!! I got all of my Hitchhiker's books autographed!!

He struck me as being a really nice guy. Very modest and unassuming. Unlike one or two other authors that I've met who were so full of themselves that it was a wonder anyone else could fit in the room with their ego. :-) I thought it was very sad that he died relatively young, although I did feel that his later works were not a patch on the early stuff.
