Friday Lyrics Quiz!

current song: That would be telling

A slight change from normal this time. All lyrics are famous misheard lyrics. I'll be needing song name, singer and a fair stab at the original lyrics for the full three point experience.

1: Got my first real sex dream, I was 5 at the time.
Played it till my fingers bled.

2: It's not fair to deny me of the cross-eyed bear that you gave to me...

3: She keeps a mower and a shotgun
In a pretty cabinet

4: Here we are now in containers
I feel stupid and contagious

5: It doesn't make a difference if we're naked or not,
We've got each other and that's a lot for love

6: I got no thumb, but it grew back again.
You're never gonna keep me down.

7: We built this city on the wrong damn road.

8: We've got one flea, one flea, one flea. Pity!
You know that I'd do anything for you...

9: O mamma dear, I'm not the virgin I was.

10: Eeee-wheee!
It's me; I'm a tree, I'm a wombat.
Oh, so cold at the end of your winter

Update: Everyone seems to have guessed 7 correctly so far :) And yes, they do get harder towards the end of the list.

I rarely get these, but 7 is We Built this City by Jefferson Starship, and the lyric is "We built this city on rock 'n roll."

Cheap wine and a three-legged goat
music

Can't be bothered looking up the exact lyrics but I remember some of these songs well enough to have a good guess as to what the singer actually meant to say...

1: Bryan Adams, "Summer of `69". Something about buying his first six-string at the five-and-dime.
2: Alanis Morrisette, "You Oughta Know". It's the cross she bears that the person being addressed gave to her.
3: Queen, "Killer Queen". The eponymous character keeps Moet and Chandon in her cabinet.
4: Nirvana, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Here we are, now imitate us.
5: Bon Jovi, "Living On A Prayer". It actually doesn't make a difference if they make it or not.
6: Chumbawamba, "Tubthumping". I get knocked down, I get back up again.
7: Jefferson Airplane Starship, "We Built This City". It was actually rock and roll they built it on. Which I suppose would be adequate as long as they excavated down to solid bearing...
8: The Cure, "Let's Go To Bed". Someone's actually so wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully pretty...

Re: Cheap wine and a three-legged goat

Alas, twas 'entertain us' instead of 'imitate us'. And 'Love Cats' for The Cure's song.

Otherwise, highly credible.

Bwah-ha-ha-ha!

Twenty one points! And though I can't swear what name they're running round with this week, they were definitely Starship at the time. Hee!

Finally figured out 9. Cyndi Lauper, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". Not quite sure what it's supposed to be but could be something like "we aren't the fortunate ones".

10... it's not Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights", is it? I have no idea what she was actually warbling, though...

BSG Starbuck Frak! [brendanm720]

It was 'Wuthering Heights'! And frankly, it took me several years to be able to actually pick out the words in that myself.

I suspect dogs may have had no problem.

1. Got my first real six-string, it was the summer of '69, played it till my fingers bled - Bryan Adams, Summer of '69.

2.

3. She keeps a Moet et Chandon in a pretty cabinet - Queen, Killer Queen.

4. Here we are now, entertain us, I feel stupid and contagious - Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit (recently covered by Paul Anka).

5. It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not, we've got each other and that's a lot for love - Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer

6. I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never going to keep me down - Chumbawamba, Larger (not sure of the song name, but I think it was something football related)

7. We built this city on rock and roll - Starship, We Built This City On Rock And Roll.

8.

9. Oh mamma dear I wanna walk in the sun - Cindi Lauper, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

10. Heathcliff, it's me it's Cathy I've come home. Let me in at your window - Kate Bush, Wuthering Heights.

I'm thinking it's quite wrong that I'm better at guessing the lyrics than knowing who sang it or what it's actually called...

My Piano

1) Bryan Adams, Summer of 69
"I got my first real six string, down at the five and dime
Played it 'till my fingers bled"

2) Alanis Morrisette, You Ought to Know
"It's not fair to deny me of the cross I bear that you gave to me"

3) Queen, Killer Queen
"She keeps a Moet et Chandon in a pretty cabinet"

4) Nirvana, Smells Like Teen Spirit
I don't know what the second line really is (because it sounds like he's got marbles in his mouth), but the first line is "Here we are now, entertain us"

5) Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer
"It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not. We've got each other and that's a lot for love..."

6) Chumbawumba, Tubthumping
"I get knocked down, but I get up again, you're never gonna keep me down"

7) Starship, We Built this City
"We built this city on Rock and Roll"

1) Got my first real six string, played it 'til my fingers bled
Bryan Adams, 'Summer of 69'

2) It's not fair to deny me of the cross I'd bear that I gave to you.
Alannis Morissette, 'You Oughta Know'
(This one is, of course, more often misheard in a hymn. The Daily Mirror cartoon strip 'The Perishers', which ran for 52 years until the death of the writer in 2005, featured an appalling toddler, Baby Grumpling, who named his teddy bear 'Gladly' for the obvious reason.)

3) She keeps a Moet et Chandon, in a pretty cabinet
Queen, 'Killer Queen'

4) Here we are now, entertain us, I feel stupid, and contagious
Nirvana, 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' (the only song I've ever performed in karaoke)

5 And it doesn't make a difference if we make it or not, We've got each other and that's a lot for love
Bon Jovi, 'Living On A Prayer'

6) I get knocked down, but I get up again, You're never gonna keep me down
Chumbawumba, Tubthumping

7) We built this city on rock and roll
Starship, 'We built this city'

8) We're so wonderfully, wonderfully, wonderfully pretty
You know that I'd do anything for you
The Cure, 'Love Cats'

9) Oh mama dear we're not the fortunate ones
Cyndi Lauper, 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun'

10) Heathcliffe, it's me, Cathy, oh come home now, oh so cold let me in at your window.
Kate Bush, 'Wuthering Heights' (rather oddly, as I love Kate Bush, I actually prefer Pat Benatar's cover version)

I didn't think that they got harder towards the end - in fact the only one that didn't come straight away was the Bon Jovi one, which took several attempts to sing it through before I suddenly realised that it would carry on 'oh-oh, we're halfway there...'

Lil Wolverine

Spot on! The full thirty out of thirty, not that I would expect any less from you based on the previous quizzes.

Oddly enough, most people seem to breeze through the first seven before having trouble with the last three, which is why I said they get harder.
