Claudia Black to become a 10th season regular for Stargate SG-1.

More Vala is always good. No news yet on Richard Dean Anderson, though IMDB seems to suggest he'll be back for the season 10 premiere.

Which show [icon-lowdownbeat]

I suspect it's a male thing here. :D Though wildecate loves her too.

samurai

Dunno if that's it, I know a few other females who like her. I think she's awful, esp. in any proximity to Daniel. She brings out the worst in him and turns him into a horrid person. Supremely irritating.

I have to agree. At first, it was amusing. After four episodes, I began to hate what she did to his character.

I totally agree. And it does seem to be somewhat gender divided which I find odd. I mean, I love sexy, in-control female characters and it's not like I have a Daniel OTP...but Vala...

She is so conniving and there is not a single, plausible, in-character reason for them to tolerate her. And yet they do. She does something stupid and selfish and endangers everyone and they roll their eyes and smile and sort of shrug "That's our Vala". I guess this is sort of the bell tolling a continued decline in my interest in that series. Sucks - it was a such a fun series for a while.

Faith - Bitch Please [pastelstar]

Among my friends it does seem a little gender divided. In that this is how the arguments usually go:

Pro Vala: She's fun. She's hot. That outfit. The innuendo. The flirting. The snark. The outfit. The leather...did we mention she's hot?

Anti Vala: She is a walking suck of OOC-ness. She endangers everyone and no one seems to care. She is shallow and predictable. She adds nothing to the team. And oh - she's not even THAT hot.

So, I don't know. I am rather biased but most of what I hear in support of Vala has to do with the actress' appearance, her costuming or a general sort of "she's fun" remark. And most of what I hear against is detail instances where characters acted, in her presence, in some way that makes no sense with everything we know of them.

And yes - I am sort of pissy about this. It's sad to think I guess I am not really watching SG1 either. I am already totally ambivalent about Atlantis. I watch them because I like spending time with my Roomie and it gives me something to look at while I knit. That's about it. *sigh* I hate losing fandoms.

fuck you canon

It's that "ooh, she's hot" crap that gets on my nerves. It has nothing to do with the characters, their histories or personalities or relationships, and everything to do with shallow self-gratification-- spank-fodder at the expense of logic, continuity, and quality.

Plus, I think the actress is impossibly homely. So the whole "ooh, she's hot" argument just has me baffled. If she were *just* homely, but with a decent personality, I'd be less cracky about it allr-- we can't all be "Sam Carter" lovely, after all. And if she were pretty but with the rotten personality, that'd be different, too.

But combine the lousy character and what she does to my precioussss Daniel with that vulture of a face and it equals me not bothing to trek to someone's house to watch it.

A regular? You know, this news actually disappoints me. Guest star, sure, regular? I don't think I could take it. Vala is someone I can only take in small doses.
