Sentimental yet sardonic [userpic]

Wooting, Loathing and a Bunny.

March 25th, 2005 (10:34 pm)

Got quoted twice on ljdq in my first entry! *snicker* And congrats to sweetjane_69 and norwegianne as well.

And in other time wasting activities, I've been busy playing Kingdom of Loathing a lot recently, although it is designed to only give you a certain number of adventures per day. *twitches* Still addictive though...

And finally - Like Bugs Bunny? Love the Looney Tunes? Absolutely hate this futureverse version coming up, the new Loonatics? Then, you might enjoy this link A New Bunny. WARNING - not remotely work safe, and there's a lot of bleeped out stuff. Enjoy!

Oh, and this little quote from Peter David about his upcoming Spike one-shot comic:
Turned in the completed script for the Spike one-shot today. My goal--which, of course, I'll probably never know if I achieved--is to have Whedon read it and think, "Okay, why the hell didn't we hire this guy to write for us?" Of course, he could just as easily think, "Thank God we never hired him to write for us." But I think it's got enough twists and turns to live up to his sense of the perverse.

If nothing else, it should please the Buffy fans since it definitively establishes that Cecily and Hallie were the same person and shows what happened at the party after William fled into the night to meet his vampiric fate.

Given that the Angel mini isn't out till June, I suspect you'll have to wait till July at the earliest. :(

Hermione - Know everything

I should point out that he's only just finished writing the comic. Drawing it's gonna take a little longer yet...

Mind you, the preview orders for the Angel mini-series can be done now...

OK, will riffle slightly less frantically. Will mark calendar instead.

I'm not much of a comics person (though the local library has a nice selection and is slowly seducing me to the Paneled Side of the Force), but I love Peter David.

Btw - meant to tell you that Star Wars Tales 23 (due out anytime around now) is telling the story of Qel Droma and his two Jedi companions on their 'Great Hunt' on Korriban.

Yeah, they're adapting Knights's back story. :D

Fine then, torture me with more things I need to buy Right This Minute. It's not bad enough I've been on a Knights fanfic kick of late (reading and writing both...like I have TIME!!), but you've gotta start taunting me with comics. Not fair, I tell ya!

(...know anything else cool?)

Brilliant!

Peter David and Joss Whedon.

Now there's a scary thought.

I like it.

Can't wait.

Think I'll go over and check out thingsfromanotherworld.com and see if I can pre-order it yet.

*sigh* I just knew somehow that PAD would be a Spike-fan. 'Course, Buzz from his run on the previous Supergirl comic was more or less a Spike rip-off, and his Spyboy comic for Dark Horse, once you get past the humor, reads very much as PAD's homage/pastiche/gender-switch of BtVS, complete with short-haired blonde ally/would-be love interest who renamed herself after trying to completely escape her old life (Bombshell nee Phyllis). I think I'll stick to back issues of his Hulk and Aquaman work.

bwah-ha-ha-ha! [by odiepepper]

I trust you are aware that PAD's currently back on the Hulk? Rather good too...

Never read Spyboy, but some of the Spike parallels in Supergirl were kinda hard to miss. :D

Knew that, but I lost interest after he left the book the first time and Marvel/succeeding writers made it blatantly clear that they wanted to return the character back to "Hulk smash!" Nowadays, I've got to budget myself much more conservatively.

And as for Spyboy, and the "Buffy" homage in Young Justice he and Chuck Dixon did (Wendy the Werewolf Hunter), I was rather put off by the swipes he took at the Xander/NB stand-ins. Whether "Butch" was a dumb, useless, deluded former bully who somehow tagged along without actually being liked or respected by the rest of the cast and was so starved for love that he ignored the fact that his "mom" had been replaced by a double agent (and in the last issue of the regular book, he gets soundly beaten up by Spyboy's femme fatale girlfriends after he tells off Spyboy on what a jackass he is, right after the female Spike-stand-in bluntly tells him he's both utterly useless and thoroughly unwelcome), or the actor who played "WtWH"'s "Javier" was a lecherous skirt-chaser who didn't care if the girls he hit on were underage...

...Well, I might be reading too much into it, and too sensitive as a result of being a Xander-fan, but PAD doesn't strike me as being one who much cares for or respects the character of Xander. And as funny as I often find his comics work to be, his tendency towards self-importance is one that I don't particularly want to see paired up with Joss Whedon's own excesses. Your mileage may vary, etc.
